A prova que encerraria o evento era uma corrida r\u00fastica de 5 km, a qual chegou na 2\u00aa coloca\u00e7\u00e3o logo atr\u00e1s de outro colega da mesma escola, conseguindo assim o t\u00edtulo da competi\u00e7\u00e3o.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Logo em 1972, foi convocado pela primeira vez para disputar os Jogos Universit\u00e1rios Brasileiros em Fortaleza pela Sele\u00e7\u00e3o Ga\u00facha, tornando-se campe\u00e3o nos 5 mil metros e vice-campe\u00e3o nos 10 mil. J\u00e1 em 1974, El\u00f3i passou a representar a Sele\u00e7\u00e3o Brasileira.
